Espresso Machine Features

If you are going to buy an Espresso machine, then you are making a good investment. However, the more you demand from your coffee maker, the higher the price will be. It can be a difficult decision. It all depends on the Espresso machine features that you are looking for in a good machine.

Here is an overview of all the features you might encounter in any machine that you are going to find online.

Frothing Wand

If you are planning on making Lattes or Cappuccinos, then you are going to want a machine with a steam wand for frothing milk. Simpler units will just have a wand. But higher end machines will have a container for holding the milk.

Cup Warmer

A cup warmer is a flat space on top of the machine, where the cup can be warmed so that the Espresso will stay hotter for longer.

Hot Water Dispenser

For those of you who don’t feel like using a kettle for a cup of tea or hot chocolate, an integrated hot water dispenser is a feature you don’t want to miss.

Strength Controls

Any decent Espresso machine will allow you to configure how much water is used for each shot of Espresso. The amount of coffee grindings can also be controlled in most semi- or fully-automatic Espresso coffee makers. By making adjustments to these settings, you can brew a cup of coffee that is exactly to your personal liking.

Pre-Moistening Cycle

When coffee grindings are made moist before a shot of Espresso is actually being pulled, this will help release the coffee grindings’ aromatic oils. This produces the maximum amount of flavor. Higher end Espresso makers will definitely have this feature.

Pod Compatible

Modern Espresso coffee makers will allow you to use premade coffee pods so that you don’t have to mess around with filling the coffee bean grinder. Most machines will allow you to use pods as well as regular coffee grounds.

Integrated Bean Grinder

If you see no point in using a separate bean grinder for your Espresso, then you might as well get an Espresso machine that has one integrated. The great thing about it is that it is set to automatically grind the proper amount of beans for each shot of Espresso that you are going to brew. It also guarantees that each cup is made of fresh coffee grindings. It’s a pretty advanced feature that will also up the price a little.

Water Filter

Water filters will filter your water for iron and chlorine tastes. It’s a great addition that will make your coffee taste a lot better. However, there is the downside of maintenance.

Bypass Doser

If you want to have a different type of coffee than the one that is already in the grinder hopper at the moment, then you can use this bypass doser. It will give you the brew of your taste, completely bypassing the Espressos that other people pull from the main coffee grindings.
